There are more than a million Children in India that are called Special. We choose not to label them. They are quite normal in most ways and sometimes exceptional in their abilities, except that they have special Needs to carry out daily activities. But the society treats them quite differently including their near relatives. This affects the children directly but the unseen impact is directly on the Parents of these Children. Having no idea on how to deal with such a destiny, parents immerse all of themselves, their time, effort and money in taking care of their child and in the process, they forget all other aspects of their life.
The relationship with their spouse often suffers a silent suffocating slow death. The disconnect with relatives and social circle is almost immediate and this impacts the child’s ability to build a social circle or to stand up for themselves if bullied or teased. Visits to public places are dramatically reduced to protect the child from the stranger’s weird glance. In India, we are yet to create a formal environment to help counsel or prepare parents of Children with Special Needs to face such daily life realities.
This website and blog aims to do that through sharing our life’s experiences, our research done by interviewing and talking to other parents, educationists, therapists, Psychologist and doctors and our perspective on it.
As we grow in our journey we will review a few products that we have used and has helped our child and share our experiences of dealing with shadow teachers and therapists too. We will soon publish a book on this and are in the process of creating a seminar for parents to share our system that has helped overcome the reasons that limit happiness in the lives of parents of children with Special needs. We aim to empower you -the parent to go out in the world, to believe, to proclaim “Yes! i am Special”
